Meet
Carla de Beer

I am a passionate and dedicated physiotherapist with over a decade of experience helping people move better, recover from injury, and return to the activities they love. My clinical philosophy is rooted in a holistic, evidence-based approach — combining structured mechanical assessment with mindful, functional movement to achieve long-term wellbeing.

JOURNEY

My journey & expertise

I graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy (BPhysT). After completing my community service year at Far East Rand Hospital in Springs, I began my career in the private hospital setting, including Kloof Mediclinic and Groenkloof Hospital. It was during these formative years working under experienced clinicians that I discovered my passion for lymphoedema and neuromusculoskeletal conditions. This encouraged me to pursue advanced training:

Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy (OMT)

Now known as Advanced Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy — in 2014 I completed my Certificate in OMT Course on Assessment and Management of Neuromusculoskeletal Disorders, run by the South African Society of Physiotherapy.

Lymphoedema
Therapy

Manual lymph drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy — during 2016 I travelled to New York, USA, to complete my certification training with Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy, gaining knowledge in treating various forms of oedema.

Yoga & Mindful
Movement

In 2019 I successfully completed my 200h Yoga Teacher Training Course in Goa, India (Ashtanga & Vinyasa Flow) — which strengthens the holistic approach to healing and recovery through mindful movement, breathwork, and flexibility training.

Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy (MDT)

During 2022–2025 I completed a comprehensive post-grad curriculum in MDT. In 2026 I passed my credentialing exam, becoming a McKenzie (MDT) Certified Therapist. This method is an internationally recognised assessment & treatment system for spine & extremity pain/disorders.

Growing to serve you better

In 2018, I founded Carla de Beer Physiotherapy at Southlake Medical Centre in Die Hoewes, Centurion, built on the promise of individualised, compassionate, evidence-based care. Thanks to the trust of our wonderful community, the practice has expanded — and in 2026 I opened a second treatment space in Elarduspark, Pretoria, allowing me to serve even more patients across the surrounding communities.

Whether you’re recovering from surgery, managing a chronic lymphatic condition, or dealing with acute back and neck pain, my goal is to empower you with the tools, knowledge and movement patterns you need to live a pain-free, active life.

My treatment philosophy

Every patient is unique. Successful treatment means considering the biological, psychological and social factors that influence health and recovery. My approach combines thorough assessment, hands-on treatment, patient education and individualised rehabilitation — because while treatment relieves symptoms, lasting results come from addressing the underlying cause and restoring function. Exercise is one of the most powerful tools in healthcare.
